DSustainability · Why We Do It

What will we leave behind for those who come after us?

Honestly? It doesn’t start with insulation ratings or solar panels. It starts with a few names.

Our children— Douwe and Laura, Kasper and Janne, Fee and Benny. And our grandchildren— Soe, Ida, Mon, and Basil. Whenever we think of them, and of all the generations that will come after them, the same question always comes to mind: What are we leaving behind for them?

That concern is the driving force behind everything we do here. Not out of a sense of guilt, but out of love. We want to pass on this little corner of the world—the garden, the pond, the sky above the dike—in a condition that’s at least as beautiful as the one we inherited.

We’re not perfect saints, and we don’t want to lecture anyone. But we’d like to share what we’ve learned along the way—choices big and small—in the hope that you’ll take a few of them to heart. Everyone can do their part.

“Comfort and sustainability don’t have to be at odds with each other—with us, they go hand in hand.”

You barely notice it, and that’s exactly the point. A warm bed, a hot shower, a quiet home—all powered by solar energy, thick cellulose insulation, and smart technology working behind the scenes.

Invisible Sustainability

You don’t see the most beautiful work

Behind the white walls is a wooden frame, insulated with paper. The roof is equipped with solar panels and a solar water heater; in the utility room, batteries store the sun’s energy from during the day for use in the evening. Much of what you see—doors, furniture, decorations—has been given a second life.

Those invisible choices make all the difference. We’re happy to showcase them—not to show off, but to demonstrate that it’s possible.
