We built this house using passive house construction—not to earn a certification, but because a house that requires very little energy is simply the most sensible gift we can give to those who come after us.
A house that keeps itself warm
The wood-frame structure is well insulated with cellulose insulation and has been carefully sealed to be airtight. As a result, the interior remains comfortable with very little heating—warm in the winter and pleasantly cool in the summer.
Sun on the roof, storage in the utility room
Solar panels and a solar water heater capture energy during the day; home batteries in the utility room store it for the evening. That way, we use our own electricity right when you’re taking a hot shower.

A ventilation system with heat recovery continuously brings in fresh air without wasting heat. You barely notice it—and that’s exactly the point of invisible sustainability.
