What will we leave behind for those who come after us?<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

Honestly? It doesn’t start with insulation ratings or solar panels. It starts with a few names. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our children\u2014 Douwe and Laura, Kasper and Janne, Fee and Benny<\/strong>. And our grandchildren\u2014 Soe, Ida, Mon, and Basil<\/strong>. Whenever we think of them, and of all the generations that will come after them, the same question always comes to mind: What are we leaving behind for them? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That concern is the driving force behind everything we do here. Not out of a sense of guilt, but out of love. We want to pass on this little corner of the world\u2014the garden, the pond, the sky above the dike\u2014in a condition that\u2019s at least as beautiful as the one we inherited. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re not perfect saints, and we don\u2019t want to lecture anyone. But we\u2019d like to share what we\u2019ve learned along the way\u2014choices big and small\u2014in the hope that you\u2019ll take a few of them to heart. Everyone can do their part. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\u201cComfort and sustainability don\u2019t have to be at odds with each other\u2014with us, they go hand in hand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You barely notice it, and that\u2019s exactly the point. A warm bed, a hot shower, a quiet home\u2014all powered by solar energy, thick cellulose insulation, and smart technology working behind the scenes. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

You don’t see the most beautiful work<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Behind the white walls is a wooden frame, insulated with paper. The roof is equipped with solar panels and a solar water heater; in the utility room, batteries store the sun\u2019s energy from during the day for use in the evening. Much of what you see\u2014doors, furniture, decorations\u2014has been given a second life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those invisible choices make all the difference. We\u2019re happy to showcase them\u2014not to show off, but to demonstrate that it\u2019s possible. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
